Not everyone has $25,000 to renovate their bathroom into a luxurious spa, but you can still give yours the renovation it deserves on a budget with a few simple tips.
Bathtub/Shower
This is usually one of the most costly items, but instead of completely replacing yours, you could always try refinishing it, as long as it’s not horribly damaged or scratched. The cost of a refinishing kit is only about $100 and it’ll look brand new.
Vanities
A new vanity could easily cost anywhere from several hundred to several thousand dollars. However, you could consider transforming an old dresser into a sink pedestal, simply by cutting out a section of the top to accommodate the sink insert, and cutting some holes in the back for the plumbing.
Floor
A great way to give your bathroom a new look without breaking the bank is to try linoleum in lieu of ceramic tile, or if your floors have hardwood underneath, try refinishing that instead. It’ll be more work for you DIY-ers, but it’ll save your bank account.
Walls
Nothing brightens up a room like a new coat of paint, and it’s definitely something you’ll want to consider during your renovation. Just keep in mind—even though you’re working on a budget, you’ll want to get a good paint with a satin finish to protect those walls from moisture.
Accessories
For a few inexpensive changes, try some new towel hooks or light fixtures, or even some new drawer pulls. Don’t forget your shower curtain, either. A great place to look for different styles and accessories, or just to give yourself some ideas, is iStockPhoto.
Keeping all of these things in mind, it’s definitely possible to do a bathroom renovation on a budget. All it takes is a little resourcefulness and a willingness to get in there and do some work.
